Hailey Hurd

Interim Associate Director

Chorale

Hailey Hurd is a passionate young educator. Her overwhelming interest for music began when she started performing and singing for school functions in Southern California. She was a leader and proud member of middle and high school performing choirs. Outside of school, she was an active member of San Diego North Coast Singers, a travelling community choir in Encinitas, California.

Hailey moved to Boise with her family in the Fall of 2018to attend Boise State University. She graduated in 2023 and earned her undergraduate degree in Music Education with a Choral Emphasis. At BSU, she was involved in many different musical ensembles including the Boise State Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Opera Theatre, Brady Street Jazz Combo, Meistersingers, Concert Choir, and had several guest appearances with the Boise State Jazz Orchestra. From her time in college, she has fond memories of serving as treasurer of Boise State’s collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), as well as volunteering for the Idaho Music Educators Association and Cantus Youth Choirs. Hailey completed her student teaching at Shadow Hills Elementary School and Rocky Mountain High School, with two of the Treasure Valley’s most beloved music educators: Brandi Cook and Gina Spengler.

In 2023, Hailey accepted her first teaching job in Mammoth Lakes, California as Mammoth Unified School District’s first Middle School Choir Director, and Elementary School General Music Educator. She saw the natural musical talent and ability from the small population of students and harnessed that interest to create Mammoth Elementary School’s first extracurricular choir, which hosted over 100 2nd-5th grade singers. Hailey helped several Mammoth Middle School students qualify for and attend the California All-State Music Education Conference (CASMEC) in 2024 and 2025 located in Sacramento, California. She also served as the High School California All-State SSAA lead chaperone in 2025.

Hailey moved back to Idaho this year and is thrilled to grow and to develop a music program at North Star Charter School in Eagle, where she is the Middle School Choir Director and Elementary School General Music Teacher. Hailey believes learning how to sing is a gift that helps children grow in many lasting ways, such as promoting self-esteem, language development, listening skills, creative expression, and giving a sense of belonging. Hailey deeply believes in the mission of Cantus Youth Choirs and is so excited to work with these talented singers.
