For 10-12th grade singers: Sign up for a Solo Masterclass with Emily Braden on January 27, 2026 at 5:45 to 7:15pm

Emily Braden is a powerhouse vocalist, songwriter and lyricist. Winner of New York City’s ‘Best of the Best’ Jazzmobile Vocal Competition and two-time cultural ambassador with the US Embassy’s Arts Envoy Program, she has emerged as a commanding and magnetic presence on the global stage.

Originally from Boise, Idaho and longtime resident of Harlem, Braden blends jazz, soul and pop to win the hearts of audiences around the world. She has headlined at New York City’s most iconic venues, including Birdland & The Blue Note (Groove Series) with past residencies at the beloved 55 Bar and Minton’s Playhouse.

Braden’s international reach continues to grow, with sold-out shows at London’s legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and increasing acclaim across European festival and club stages. Her sophomore album, Cannon & Sparrow (2023), is a stirring tribute to resilience — showcasing the vocal prowess, emotional range, and that define her work.

What to prepare?

Singers in 10-12th grade should prepare a solo from a current Cantus song from our upcoming TOTALLY TUBULAR concert that they would like to audition for (maximum of 32 measures). A piano accompanist will be provided for you. Please be ready to tell your accompanist which solo or measure you’re doing of which song (for example, “I’m singing Solo 1 from “The Best”). You may use sheet music or come memorized. We then encourage you to incorporate her feedback into your video auditions (due midnight of February 3, 2026).

What is a masterclass?

Singers will have a 7 minute vocal coaching session with Emily Braden in front of other masterclass participants and observers. Singers will perform their 32 measures and then receive feedback and input from Emily Braden. This is valuable because both the performer and the observer learn from Ms. Braden’s feedback.
