Cantus Official Concert Blacks

To reduce financial burden on families and because last season’s Finale Concert outfits looked so sharp, we’ve decided to retire the official Cantus concert black outfits. Cantus singers will provide their own outfits for our concerts this season. We will provide guidelines and then let you show your own style. These outfits will have different themes/criteria for the Winter Concert and Finale Concerts.

Concordia, Virtuoso, Concert Choir, and Chorale wear FORMAL CONCERT BLACK with RED ACCENTS

Here’s a look book of the theme. Think formal black as your base with some kind of red accent piece and you’ll be good! Please do NOT go out and buy a new outfit. We chose this look to save money for families. Singers who have already purchased black outfits for their school choirs may wear these outfits for our Winter Concert. If you do not own a red accent that fits the criteria below, solid black is just fine.

Lookbook

The overall palette is black with holiday red accents. Please make sure the red is a vibrant holiday red (shown below), and not maroon, pink, or orange. White formal dress shirts may be worn with dress pants/suits/tuxes. Sequined black fabrics are great. The look should be formal–think wedding, dance, or recital.

Here are some ideas for assembling your outfit:

  • Black dress with a black cardigan and red scarf or red necklace
  • Black dress slacks with a white dress shirt, black or red tie, black dress shoes, black belt
  • Black skirt with white shirt and black or red cardigan
  • White dress shirt with a black vest, black pants, black dress shoes, and a solid red bowtie
  • Black suit with white dress shirt, black shoes, black belt, red pocket square
  • Jewelry and accessories
  • Please no watches or bracelets.
  • Yes to scarves, cardigans, layers, and vests. You can wear your Cantus jewelry, pearls, small rhinestones, small silver jewelry, or red jewelry.

Hair

Please wear hair back, out of the face. Bangs that extend past the eyebrows should be secured back–for all genders. We want to see your face on stage!

Footwear

Black dress shoes are preferred if you have them or can borrow some. Casual shoes like canvas shoes may be worn the directors give prior approval, and do not have visible logos and are non-athletic. Heels should be 1 inch or less.

Coverage standards

  • No sleeveless tops
  • No bare midriff (you need to be able to lift your arms straight up over your head and have at least 1 inch overlap of shirt over bottoms)
  • No tears or slashes
  • Skirts must hit below the knee
  • No sheer clothing
  • No jeans, track pants, workout pants, joggers. Leggings may be worn under skirts (but not as pants)

WARNING! Because the stage will be flooded with light, please make sure that age-appropriate and properly-colored undergarments (bras, slips, undershirts, long shorts under dresses) are worn.

Contemporary Ensembles Outfit

VoiceOver, Bella Visi, Fortis, and Contessa will wear their contemporary outfits at the Saturday, December 10 call time and bring their formal concert black outfit to the December 9 Tech Rehearsal on a hanger in a labeled garment bag.

VoiceOver

Girls: Wear your own black slacks (no leggings, no wide leg pants) and a black shell or tank. Black dress shoes. Your sequin top will be provided prior to the concert. Bring your concert formal black outfit on a hanger in a labeled garment bag to the Tech Rehearsal. LABEL YOUR STUFF.

Boys: Wear your own dark wash skinny jeans with white dress shirt on a hanger, black dress shoes, black belt, black socks. Your bowtie and blazer will be provided prior to the concert. Bring your concert formal black outfit on a hanger in a labeled garment bag to the Tech Rehearsal. LABEL YOUR STUFF.

Bella Visi

Wear your own black slacks (no leggings, no wide leg pants). Black dress shoes. Your maroon top and jewelry will be provided prior to the concert. Bring your concert formal black outfit on a hanger in a labeled garment bag to the Tech Rehearsal. LABEL YOUR STUFF.

Fortis

Wear your own dark wash skinny jeans with white dress shirt on a hanger, black dress shoes, black belt, black socks. Your skinny tie and cardigan will be provided prior to the concert. Bring your concert formal black outfit on a hanger in a labeled garment bag to the Tech Rehearsal. LABEL YOUR STUFF.

Contessa

Wear your own black slacks (no leggings, no wide leg pants). Black dress shoes. Your blue top will be provided prior to the concert. Bring your concert formal black outfit on a hanger in a labeled garment bag to the Tech Rehearsal. LABEL YOUR STUFF.
