Cantus Youth Choirs presents modified plan for Season 11

Cantus Youth Choirs is proud to present Season 11. In spite of the many challenges caused by COVID-19, Cantus is thrilled to extend the following three offerings for semester 1 of Season 11.

1. The ANYWAY Project

A family shared-experience music video project for singers, alumni, their siblings, parents, grandparents, and friends.

The ANYWAY Project will be a music video composed of user-submitted audio recordings from Cantus singers, alumni, friends, parents, adults, children … anyone can participate! They’ll sing to our studio-recorded instrumental track. We’ll take those submissions and create the audio track for the music video.

A t-shirt with the following power-statements from the song will be shipped to each participant. Singers who want to participate in the video portion of the music video will wear their t-shirt.

Participants will be invited to one of several socially-distanced in-person video shoots. Distance videography and drones will be used to capture video footage for the project.

Participants can also submit home video footage of themselves and their families for consideration. These videos should be activities that fit the message of the song: overcoming adversity, simple day-to-day joys, adventure, taking a risk, loving, believing, dreaming, singing. Examples could include: a birthday party, a family bike ride, hiking, family vacation, athletic event, volunteering, visiting the elderly, reading to a child … just something that is meaningful and real.

Anyway lyrics

You can spend your whole life building
Something from nothin’
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway

You can chase a dream
That seems so out of reach
And you know it might not never come your way
Dream it anyway

God is great
But sometimes life ain’t good
And when I pray
It doesn’t always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

This world’s gone crazy
It’s hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway

You can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons
In a moment they can choose to walk away
Love ’em anyway

God is great
But sometimes life ain’t good
And when I pray
It doesn’t always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

You can pour your soul out singing
A song you believe in
That tomorrow they’ll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway
Yeah, sing it anyway

I sing
I dream
I love
Anyway

2. Four high school ensembles

In-person rehearsals for VoiceOver, Bella Visi, Fortis, and the new Contessa.

Cantus Youth Choirs will launch this first semester with our four high school contemporary groups: VoiceOver, Bella Visi, Fortis, and the new Contessa. Each of these groups are auditioned and will be limited in size to accommodate in-person rehearsals.

Each of these groups will learn, memorize, record, and release an ensemble audio single. As conditions permit, they’ll have an opportunity to (1) learn their part in virtual and in-person rehearsals, (2) receive individualized coaching, (3) record their part in an isolated space, and (4) participate in a virtual mixing/mastering session so they can see how music is prepared for commercial release.

Even though Rhapsody will not launch this semester, we are accepting auditions now for next semester.

Social distancing will be expected during in-person rehearsals. Singers will be expected to maintain a minimum of 6 feet of distance. Singers will provide their own mask or face shield during in-person rehearsals. Singers will be rehearsing outside or virtually. Singers will need to dress appropriately for outside rehearsals.

To maintain appropriate social distancing, rehearsals will be closed to non-singers.

Singers will need to take personal responsibility to maintain social distancing when arriving and leaving in-person rehearsals.

Cantus Youth Choirs has presented this in-person rehearsal plan to Central District Health of Ada County and it has been approved (as of August 13, 2020).

When registering, parents will be required to accept a COVID-19 waiver, no refunds, video/photography use waiver.
