No, please stay home! We appreciate your dedication, but attending rehearsal while ill puts other choir members at risk and can prolong your own recovery. Many Cantus participants are medically fragile and have compromised immune systems. Please stay at home if you have:
- Fever or chills
- Runny or stuff nose
- A cough or sore throat
- Difficulty breathing or chest congestion
- Body aches or extreme fatigue
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
What if I’m feeling “mostly okay” but not 100%? Use the 24-hour rule: if you’ve had symptoms in the past 24 hours or are still taking medication for acute illness, stay home. You need time to recover, and you may still be contagious.
Won’t I fall behind if I miss rehearsal? We’d rather have you miss one rehearsal than spread illness to multiple members who then miss several rehearsals. Don’t worry, stay home, get better, we’ll get you caught back up!
When is it safe to return? Return when you’ve been symptom-free (without medication) for at least 24 hours and feel well enough to sing without straining.
Should I notify anyone if I’m not coming? Yes. You get 3 freebie absences (we don’t care what the reason is). To get an excused absence, we need to know why you missed and we need to know a-head-of-time. Illnesses are excused absences, but we need you to let us know. Submit an absence request here.
